When you've entered enough competitions that it's actually harder for you to not win than it is to actually win.

I think that contests like this should be done as top 10 win instead of random

Random still includes a small chance for those not in the top 10 to win something, so having the more entries submitted the more "tickets" in a contest you have makes sense to me still.
