Hello again!
Good to see the progress! Uneven ribs look lovely, and while the rib near the head creates a bit of an empty space there i think its good and adds some uniqueness to the fish :)
However, your sword no longer seems to fit in 9x9x35 dimensions. Those are set around the Attachment point, so moving that closer to the front sadly wont give more room in the back. Plus the top bits of ribs now poke out of the allowed frame.
Another thing, your Troxel link somehow complains about Alpha mapping, while there are no glass blocks on the design. Could you please make sure there is a clean version uploaded?
You can easily check for technical issues, if there are any, with Lint and Export button in Troxel. Load your model in, pick the type of your style and click on it, that will highlight anything that is out of order.
Last but not least, it seems like you made the shades or grey more contrast? On the original design they were smooth and created a nice texture of some aged fish bone. With the way they currently are the colors feel much more messy. I believe it would be worth it to clean up those too, going for hand-painted and thought through coloring (brighter on exposed to light parts, darker where the shadows falls) instead of what seems to be random.
Changing status to Active for now, but please do set it back to Review when ready again :)
Hello!
Now that is a curious idea :D I remember we had someone working on a fishbone staff long time ago but that one was more on cartoon-ish happy side wile your design looks dangerous and spooky!
Where does the wooden part come from? Is the spine meant to be plugged into sword handle? At the moment the grey part gave me a feeling that it belongs to the spine, may be some part of the tail, and then the wooden bit plugged into that.
If you were going to grey as tail, id suggest to drop the wooden bit and extend wish spine to full length, turning handle into more obvious tail fins.
If grey was meant as metal part of wooden handle, id suggest to use some color/shape/texture that is further away from bone color.
Another thing, it is best to avoid repeated elements, especially with things that are meant to be organic. You did awesome job on the fish skull, looks incredible! However ribs could be a bit more convincing. May be it would work better if they had slightly move volume where they connect to the spine and were shaped more like general fish shape?
Made a quick edit based on your model to illustrate both things:
Those above are not meant as perfect designs, there is always room for improvement, just hoping they would help you pick a direction :)
Going to set this one to Active, change the status back to Review if you upload updated model. Hoping to see it on review again!
