Hello!

Now that is a curious idea :D I remember we had someone working on a fishbone staff long time ago but that one was more on cartoon-ish happy side wile your design looks dangerous and spooky!

Where does the wooden part come from? Is the spine meant to be plugged into sword handle? At the moment the grey part gave me a feeling that it belongs to the spine, may be some part of the tail, and then the wooden bit plugged into that.

If you were going to grey as tail, id suggest to drop the wooden bit and extend wish spine to full length, turning handle into more obvious tail fins.

If grey was meant as metal part of wooden handle, id suggest to use some color/shape/texture that is further away from bone color.

Another thing, it is best to avoid repeated elements, especially with things that are meant to be organic. You did awesome job on the fish skull, looks incredible! However ribs could be a bit more convincing. May be it would work better if they had slightly move volume where they connect to the spine and were shaped more like general fish shape?
