Newsweek Review [Top]

With Trove going to full release ("This isn't even my final form!") the Trove Creations world ramped up again on both the player and Dev side.

Mod News:

The big news of the week is clarified guidelines from the Dev team about how mods will be accepted from now on. The most significant change is that custom VFX will no longer be accepted for new player-made costumes and mounts (and no new textures for wings). See the full annoucement here.

Related to this new annoucement was a thread posted by player Miknugget asking why mods were being changed after they were accepted by the Dev team. Several Devs pipped up and gave a very thorough explanation of all that goes into introducing new player-made mods and why these changes are needed. Long story short - mods as adjusted to best work with the game. See the full discussion here.

Significantly helpful to the modding community is a new in-depth guide to every step of the modding process produced by player Milambit (also known as the Trove Creations mod Lykos23). Modding guide found here. In a similar vein, player Ignitas (of Troxel fame) posted a script that will in one step extract all client files from the new system implemented by Trove recently. Find the script here.

Item Creation News:

The Devs have annouced the slow return to working through items and creations submitted through /r/TroveCreations. Towards this end the Currently Requesting sidebar was updated with a detailed breakdown of requesting priorities. For a full visual breakdown of both the item and dungeon/lair priorities see this Google Doc here

The next update to the Currently Requesting sidebar is scheduled to take place this Friday, June 17th.

Last bit - I will be continuing to expand the scope and access of what Trove Creations Digest is about by expanding onto Twitter. From now on issues of TCDigest will be accessible early on Sundays via Twitter and then on Trovesaurus on Monday as usual. Additionally, there will be intraweek updates on hot items and relevant forum postings as well as a few to-be-annouced features in the coming weeks. Be sure to Follow @Qoaleth

  • Other than celebrating the release of Trove the big news from the last stream was that the next class will wield a brand new weapon type! Expect more news on /r/TroveCreations as the Dev team looks to get player-made creations for the class release.

Top Player Made Creations with Interviews - Week of 7/5-7/11 [Top]

As ranked by Reddit users, the following posts are the top rated creations from this past week here to give you a slice of the player-made creations from this past week. **(There is no guarantee that any of these items will be accepted in-game nor should their inclusion be understood as any type of endorsement. They are selected solely based upon their ratings by Reddit users.)

There were no dungeons submitted this past week.

Player creator _Dusty_Mustard_ (IGN: Dusty_Mustard) offered the top-rated [Noob Lair] The Artifact. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

I made this in game in two different club worlds before attempting it as a lair (cloudvox's club world as well as VIP Vault). It was a design I made from scratch randomly one day, I honestly don't know what inspired the actual design.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?

The biggest challenge for me was doing the underground part. I ended up loading it in metaforge and placing blocks there, then loading it back into Qubicle to set the correct colors to the blocks. I haven't really learned Qubicle's toolset perfectly yet.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

Only thing I can think to say is if you have troubles making a dungeon or lair just keep at it. I must of started and thrown away several dozen ideas before I came to this one.

Player creator Ocgineer (IGN: Stedms) offered the top-rated [Deco] Terrarium. See the full post here.

Player creator Indalx (IGN: Indal) offered the top-rated [Mask] The Predator. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

I was born in 1988 and grew up with Robocop, Predator, Power Rangers, VHS tapes and all that came along with that era. One day I was Youtubing and came across the new Predator character in Mortal Kombat X. I was instantly hyped.

Some days later I was scrolling through my styles to make my ninja a bit more visually acceptable to my standards. I was sad to find that there wasnt any mask that came up to my expectations (all the masks are beautiful, I talk about personal qualifications), so I decided that I had to do something about it.

After scraping 3-4 masks because I wasnt satisfied with the result it hit me. I instantly Googled a Predator picture without the mask and decided to make one myself, and if accepted one I could use. Then the creation began.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?

My biggest challenge was finding the right colors to make the shading and the teeth. The design came out naturally as I built the face. I expected it to be a failure due to the space I had to work with but the end result was up to my liking. My initial design was a bit bigger but I expected it to be accepted due to other masks, but I found out that it couldnt be done. I thought that it would be a disaster to shorten the eyes and I didnt want to mess with the mouth, but I was glad to find that wasn't the case. The final design was still up to my expectations.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

My words of insiration would be to find something you love to make and not something that is needed. The more love you throw into a design, the better it will be in the end.

Finally I would like to add that no matter how crappy your design may look, it's yours and you should cherish it. See it as part of training. The more you do it, the better you will become. I remember my first creations that had no shading, no material maps, and minimal context. You can do it, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Player creator L0rdkratos (IGN: L0rdkratos) offered the top-rated [Mask] Frozen Shadow. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

My inspiration was the Frozen Fiend hat (not created by me).

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?

My biggest challenge in creating this item was selecting colors that fit with Frozen Fiend

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

If you have an idea then just go for it, you can't achieve your goal without trying.

Reader Survey [Top]

Last week's poll surveyed readers about what less common mods they would like to see more of. Boats (9 votes), Mag Riders (9 votes), and Allies (10 votes) were all more or less equally desired (31 votes total).

This week's poll turns to guesses about the next class: "What will be the new weapon type?"
