Newsweek Review

The big news of the week is the addition of noob dungeons and lairs to the list of Currently Requesting as well as an update to the parameters for regular dungeons and lairs. In a push to make Trove more user-friendly for new players there are new opportunities for dungeon and lair creators to help create that visual and gamplay impact that helps to rope in more people to the Trove community. For complete details see the full post here.

Additionally, this past week the number of subscribers to the Trove Creations subreddit passed 2,000!

There will be no issue of Trove Creations Digest next week.

Twitch.tv Stream Recaps

Friday 5/22 saw the regular weekly Trove stream. There was no item creation stream this past week.

Trove Livestream (5/22 stream archived here)

  • Hint at possible future class: "skinny longer ranged pole melee class." No indication that this is happening any time, or even at all
  • Public Test Realm "almost" finished. When it is ready it will be limited access, but eventually will be opened to anyone with a max level character

Top Player Made Creations with Interviews - Week of 5/17-5/23

As ranked by Reddit users, the following posts are the top rated creations from this past week here to give you a slice of the player-made creations from this past week. **(There is no guarantee that any of these items will be accepted in-game nor should their inclusion be understood as any type of endorsement. They are selected solely based upon their ratings by Reddit users.)

There were no dungeons submitted this past week.

Player creator Catus_felis (IGN: Catus) offered the top-rated [Lair] Medieval Helmet. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

Medieval Highlands is one of my favorite biomes so I wanted to make something medieval. And what is more medieval than helmets? I googled some helmets and used one (http://ak1.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-thing/size/l/tid/37479689.jpg) as a model for my creation. Also I tried to look for helmets in Troves' hat styles, but there wasn't many helmets there.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?i

Since this was my first creation in Trove, the biggest challenges came from the technical side; how to add plugs, how to make plugs connect correctly, how to make .dungeon file, etc. One big challenge was to make a creation fit both with the Trove theme and to fit in a particular biome.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

At the start it's quite hard to make everything work. Once you know the basics of creation, then it's fun to create stuff for the game.

Player creator MonsterAnt (IGN: MonsterAnt) offered the top-rated [Deco] Fae Fences. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

Well... I know that some fences are in the game already, so I thought that there might be more, at least one for each biome. I started with Fae (because I had an idea of how I want it to look... okay I just like fences XD) and I intend to continue.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?

I tried to copy the shape of Fae wilds trees and it came out terribly. I wanted to remake it so that I liked it, but sadly I failed myself :D. And here is the final product after a few days of rethinking and "hard" work - it blends in nicely with the dark grass and looks a little similar to a bush, which is Fae themed.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

Probably a lot of people have said this already but I'll say it again: Don't make things for credits, they are just a bonus. Make them when you want/need the item/deco you're creating or if you have an idea that you like.

The main inspiration probably is that your hard work and ideas are used by others. I love the sight when I'm walking through someones club and suddenly I see my deco :)

Player creator Sheribonbon (IGN: Sheribonbon) offered the top-rated [Hat] Clearing Up My Mind. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

My inspiration were, of course - bubbles! They are so colorful and cute. I wanted to make something that would go well with my previous submission - bubble staff (Bubble Blowing Baton). My friend also told me that it would be nice to see a bubble hat in the game so here it is!

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?i

My biggest challenge was coloring and shape. It is so hard for me to make round things in voxels in different sizes!

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

Just do want you like, keep your mind open - everything can be an inspiration!

I just want to say "thank you" to everybody who liked my creation. It keeps me motivated to make more items!

Player creator Qoaleth (IGN: Qoaleth) offered the top-rated [Hat] Cubit Collector. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

The inspiration was really just the idea that it is - a "piggy bank." The idea just came to me, similar maybe to the plug hat, that you turn the Trove character model into an object.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?i

I fiddled around with the orientation a little bit and then how to make it actually look like a slot that the coin was going into. Since hats have at least one voxel layer of hair underneath them it was a challenge since I wanted this to sort of blend into the head but with so many color combinations there was no easy way to get that look. I think the final result evokes the idea decently enough.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

Be inspired by other people's works. I think the creations arena of this game can kind of breed a level of jealousy as some people get recognition and others don't for their creations. I certainly see an element of this with a lot of new creators who are very impatient to get stuff into the game, and I see no reason to deny myself that when other people's work gets attention and mine doesn't it can be a bit frustrating. I think the best way I've learned to deal with that is to turn that jealousy into inspiration - use it as an opportunity to make your creations just that much better.

Reader Survey - If you could specifically design quest areas for certain bosses, would you?

Last week's poll surveyed readers about whether their lair and dungeon designs were likely to be significantly affected by the Monster Bash update. The general trend appears to have been in the "no" direction with the majority of voters saying that there would be "no" or only "somewhat" of an impact.

This week's poll considers more ideas related to the Monster Bash update and asks whether you would design specific quest areas for specific boss affixes, if that were to ever become a possibility: "If you could control which boss affixes spawn in your lair/dungeon, would you design quest areas specifically tailored to those boss affixes?"
