Ted, Andrew, Brian, and Cole hosted today's Trove developer livestream, which focused on the upcoming Fish and Ships update: fishing, boats, adventuring reward changes, and the Pirate Captain class.

FISHING POLES

  • The basic fishing pole will allow you to fish in water, while more advanced fishing poles will allow you to fish in other liquids, such as lava, plasma, and chocolate.
  • Lures, which will be sold at a fishing vendor, are required for fishing. A single lure will be used if you fail to catch something or if you catch a rare fish.
  • Types of fish that can be caught change based upon time and biome.
  • Fish can be deconstructed for different resources/materials, like the Fat Catfish, which gives a significant amount of Glim. Ancient Scales can be obtained by deconstructing fish, and are used to create boats.
  • Players can fish wherever they want, but not every fish will be available in one location.
  • Several fishing pole skins (dragon, candy, neon, etc.) with their own unique bobbers.

BOATS

  • There will be three sizes of boats, including Clipper (smaller) and Galleon (larger).
  • Boats use two slots: the boat itself, and a sail.
  • The camera will unlock when players are sailing.
  • Acceleration can be controlled by setting the boat's sails. Boats will have a turning radius, meaning they will be less responsive than riding a mount or moving your character on foot.
  • Boats will (eventually) have cannons.
  • Boats will actually float, meaning they'll behave according to buoyancy physics.
  • Treasure Isles content will provide new boats through Golden Seashells, a biome-specific material.
  • There will be "big oceans" to explore.
  • Dracolytes will remain in their ultimate form while sailing a boat.

ADVENTURING

  • These improvements will be implemented next week.
  • Lair spawn rates have been increased "by a lot".
  • Dungeons will reward two pieces of equipment.
  • Adventuring Treasure Chests are going to be introduced. Like Chaos Chests and Radiant Caches, they are boxes that have special rewards. They will cycle every couple of weeks, and have a ~25% chance to drop from dungeons and a ~5% chance to drop from NPCs.
  • A possible reward (for the time being) is the Blue/Pink Cookiephant.

PIRATE CAPTAIN

  • The Pirate Captain wasn't ready to show this week, but will be previewed next week.
  • Pirate Captains have a parrot pet.
  • Passive/basic attack (Plunderbuss) grants Dubloons, which can be used to upgrade the Pirate Captain's cannon.
  • Mouse 2 (right-click) throws down a cannon, which is controlled by the Pirate Captain's parrot.
  • Keyboard 1 throws down a decoy, much like the Fae Trickster. The Pirate Captain's decoy has less HP than Fae Trickster, but explodes when it is killed.
  • Keyboard 2 (Ultimate) activates a second cannon, which acts like a mortar/lobber. Both cannons can be active at once.
