As we continue to grow the Trove community, we are excited to incorporate volunteer Moderators and Game Masters (GM) to help make the community even more welcome to everyone. As a Community Manager (CM), we are official, full time, paid employee of gamigo. GMs and Moderators are strictly volunteers and will directly assist Community Managers when freely able to. We have noticed several questions come up as we started applications for these roles and wish to define them better for all.
  • A Moderator is focused primarily on the Trove forums. This includes answering questions, consolidating feedback or bugs, and sometimes deleting inappropriate messages. The forums are a great place to post bug reports (any account related issues should contact support) or share your thoughts about how to improve the game. They may also help with forum contests, and writing FAQs or guides.
  • A Game Master (GM) is primarily focused on player interactions in the game Trove itself. This also includes answering questions, consolidating feedback or bugs, and monitoring online situations occurring in game. They may also help with in-game events and player reporting.
  • The volunteer roles can share responsibilities in ways of course, but each have their own focus.

Game Masters will have separate accounts that are not used to play the game, but to support it. Full game masters are expected to go through the process of application, evaluation, interview, training, and a trial period for review. Game Masters should never reveal their true identity or the name of their personal account character. Do not share publicly if you are applying to become a Moderator or GM, and especially do not tell others if you have been accepted in a volunteer role. Please do not ask volunteers for personal info or try to pursue the matter. They have no option to help their own character or their friends in any way, and this barrier between their GM persona and real life persona is there for their personal protection. Game Masters are at higher risk of being maliciously targeted both online and in real life. Their safety is one of our primary concerns, and any hint at an attempt to penetrate their layer of privacy and safety will be met with an immediate and severe reaction from gamigo. They will be referred to solely by in game GM name or staff identifier.

Starting out, Trove GMs will not have direct admin abilities or powers in game. GMs will be in game to help promote friendly interactions, report misconduct, answer questions, and possibly help with in-game events. GMs will never have the ability to clone items, dupe money, or anything of the sort. They are not allowed to interact with the game world in any way except for support. Any violation of this may result in immediate termination.

As we continue to evolve the GM role, there may be basic commands added to help them assist players, such as the ability to temporarily prevent an inappropriate player from chatting. GMs and Mods may also help provide adequate evidence and helping report players through the support ticket system when possible. If anyone notices inappropriate behavior in violation of the code of conduct and is able to report a player, please follow the guidelines in our article found here: http://forums.trovegame.com/showthread.php?144655-How-to-Report-Players-Violating-Code-of-Conduct

Game Masters and moderators are always volunteers and players here to simply help and give back to their community. They are not paid for their efforts and can be in frustrating situations that may take a very thick skin to overcome. We appreciate our volunteer efforts to help create a more positive and safe gaming environment. As we build up a volunteer team for Trove, we hope you can continue the tradition of respecting volunteers and other players to make this game a better place. I hope this explanation helps clear up some questions or concerns, and everyone has more insight on what to expect for these roles.

Thanks Trovians for your time!
