Avarem has posted an update on the status of Trove's launch.

Hey all.

It's been an exciting and intense first few days of launch here! I wanted to make a post and answer some FAQs as well as give a little more insight into our development and what's going on.

To start - let's not be coy, we got a whole lot more people than we ever anticipated, and its kept up. We knew we had a game people liked, but the amount of attention we've gotten is phenomenal. This has positives as well as obvious drawbacks, specifically queues and some server instability.

Our number one goal right now is getting everyone to play reliably and consistently - everything else is secondary.

If you're curious here's the specifics on what we've been running in to:

  • Hardware capacity - a hard problem, but relatively straightforward to fix. We've been adding more hardware over the recent days and are adding more tomorrow. It can be slow and we need to be sure, but this has been increasing and we're running a whole lot more than we started with.
  • System capacity - Running everyone connected like this has plusses and minuses, one minus is that it's all one big ecosystem and we're putting a lot of strain on it. Even sometimes people in queue! We are finding problems we just never ran in to during Beta. We're fixing them as fast as we can, often the same day. Sometimes it's finding something new, sometimes it's making optimizations.

Everything in both categories has gotten way better since last Thursday and we have improved every day. I know the symptoms on your end can still be frustrating and seem random, but there are very real reasons and they are all being addressed.

Right now it simply requires dedication on our part and a little patience on yours as we address these issues, most of which are far far better than they were over the weekend.

That said, as someone enjoying our game you shouldn't have to put up with queues or crashes and there is nothing higher priority to us than making sure both are a thing of the past - no matter how many people want to play.

We also know you don't have to put up with it, and we do want to thank you for sticking with us. I wanted to let you guys know that we do think you deserve a little something, here's what we have on the way:

  • We know a lot of you have lost shadow keys and arena runs. We'll be giving everyone some keys in order to make sure you didn't really lose out.
  • We had a small critical failure early on Saturday during which nobody got Cubits for daily rewards. Everyone who played during that time will get a full 1000 Cubits.
  • After we're through this rough patch we'll do something nice for you all as well. I want to make sure everything is smooth and stable before we talk more, but I wanted to let you know now that something is coming.

The current state of things is as such: we have a solid amount of hardware at this point and have a handle on all issues that we've seen so far. The patch tomorrow will optimize our server side and should let us uncap even further. The response to the game has been out of control huge and it's great, but we definitely aren't anywhere near relaxing until everything is smooth. Over the next few days you may still see queues but they should be shorter, and you may still crash but it should be far less frequent and steadily be going down. We're aiming for everyone to have a great experience by this weekend at the latest. Again, thank you for your patience and support, and we thank you for spending your time with us and we aren't taking that decision lightly.
