The Art of Dodging
Why is dodging important?
Whenever you see a Boss charge up a damaging attack, dodging at the right time negates all damage. Stuck in one of your skills and moving slowly? Dodge. About to die from a extremely high drop? Dodge! Dodging is one of the core mechanics of Trove and is widely unknown.
How to Dodge
Dodging can be executed by pressing the [SHIFT] key.
There are three instances where dodging is important.
1. Attack Dodging
When a boss/monster is about to unleash a strong attack, one of their
arms will pull back in a reeling motion. When you see they're about to swing,
execute your dodge. You'll take no damage and the boss will have a 1-3s recover.
This can also be used when you're low on health to retreat to a safe distance.
2. Movement Increase
When dodging, you'll move quickly with any character before returning to your normal speed. In PVP,
this is invaluable due to the fact that when holding the flag, movement abilities are
limited. You can also utilize this when, for instance, you're stuck in Revenant's Ultimate.
3. Damage Negation
If you're plummenting from a high drop, simply dodge the second before you land,
and if you are still within the dodge animation, you will take no damage. This also works with
spikes on the floor.
Expert Technique
When dodging, adding a jump to the beginning or the end of the execution
may further decrease your chances of taking damage.
Using your wings after a 'air dodge' can also be utilized as a quick escape from combat.
It would also be of importance to note energy regeneration does keep continuing
while dodging, but not while jumping (A quick way to regain energy and not be a target.)
