Flames and lava purge the weakness from any who dare venture into these now desolate lands. Hints lie behind a time when it wasn’t so chaotic but now lava leaks from every crevice and angle. Events have transpired, sunderings have occured, and betrayal has run rampant all to create the existence of the fiery plains we see now.

The Sundering, breaking the broken apart

While the Dragonfire peaks has always been a fiery domain it wasn’t always so bleak. The Sun Goddesses last defence helped to create this all too broken landscape after its fiery bowels were unleashed onto the surface when the Sundering occurred. This event wasn’t only contained to the Dragonfire Peaks but arguably it changed the landscape when all of her power was released into the world. Many items are hinted at having been created during this elemental breakdown, Molten Magmauler and the Bow of the Burning Eye being two of those creations.

The Power Dragons and their enemies

Tyrants and friends, us Trovians and Dragon kind have coexistence since the foundation of the Dragonfire Peaks was set into molten stone. Dragons serve as a source of absolute power in these lands of fire ruling over all those who would enter their domain. Lineages of once lost dragon empires still can be found in some of the bloodlines of the dragons that still exist here with their power still slowly burning in the background waiting for their chance to rise once again.

With gaining so much power you can't help but not make enemies out of those jealous of your seat. Dragon slayers purged the land in hopes of gaining any advantage they could to gain the dragons power for themselves. While some rivalaries go deeper with entire peoples taking arms against, Jotun kings burning hatred for dragons is still rumoured to be quite hot to this day.

The Maws

Whether through force or acceptance many Trovians flocked around these beacons of power for better or worse. Different religious groups formed around certain subgroups of dragons in hopes of becoming more like them, the Dracolyte may very well stem from such sects separated into what they would call Maw’s.

Ancient lineages might follow suit with those of the Ashen Maw, a sect that worship fire as a source of renewal and as a cleansing righteous force  to use against the impure. A cycle of rebirth and pride there is still hope of the Ashen Maws return even after the Sundering seemed to take away some of the brightness of their flames as the sun set in their long day.

More recently after the sundering some has lost confidence of the true power of fire and fell into the cult of the Shadow Maw using the shadows they fight in order to gain an advantage in the fight; fighting shadows with shadow fire. Some even going as far as using the corrupt fire, Balefire, to help aid them in this fight. While intentions might be noble the power of the shadows to corrupt is not something to underestimate since no one really knows who rules to true power of Balefire.
