Dusty_Mustard Retiring from Trovesaurus Mod Directory

The inimitable Dusty_Mustard, who helped spearhead the creation of the Mod Directory on Trovesaurus, has now stepped down from actively managing the directory and helped it reach a level of automation. New player-made mods can be added to the Mod Directory directly by the creators themselves after having created a Trovesaurus username and going to the directory link above. See Dusty_Mustard's annoucement here.

In related news, this past week saw the number of player made mods surpass 500. Congratulatitons to the avid community of creators on such a profusion of ideas. See the original announcement here.

Lasty, for those of you that have had Radiant-style creations accepted in-game but have been unable to obtain them, Atronos clarifies that this is an issue that will be cleared up in a future patch (in addition to updates to the collectionis UI - announced previously). See the original post here.

Twitch.tv Stream Recaps

Friday 5/1 saw the regular weekly Trove stream. There was no item creation stream this past week.

Trove Livestream (5/1 stream archived here)

  • Several FriedSushi mods will be making their way in over the next couple weeks - Q'bthulu mount, Sushi mount (of multiple varieties). Congrats on all the hardwork being rewarded, Sushi!
  • Recent player-made Radiant Ruins lairs and Shadow Dungeons will be coming in two weeks - congrats to all of those designers!
  • The Adventurer class (official name still TBD) was previewed with the slated release date of "sometime in May." For Modders it looks like there will be a significant amount of features to customize - chickens, bombs, urns, boomerangs, and backpacks (Jedi adventurer with Yoda incoming!). Time to really start thinking about new skins to try out!

Top Player Made Creations with Interviews - Week of 4/26-5/2

As ranked by Reddit users, the following posts are the top rated creations from this past week here to give you a slice of the player-made creations from this past week. **(There is no guarantee that any of these items will be accepted in-game nor should their inclusion be understood as any type of endorsement. They are selected solely based upon their ratings by Reddit users.)

Player creators LegendaryStudios in collaboration with barneebrown offered the top-rated [Dungeon] Nightmare of Dreams. See the full post here.

Player creators barneebrown in collaboration with Katanya offered the top-rated [Lair] Mermaid. See the full post here.

Player creator joshato (IGN: Aodahn) offered the top-rated [Hair] Because you're worth it. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

My long luscious hair in real life, and the bubbles I create when I shampoo and condition.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?i

The bubbles. I'd say picking the "perfect" opacity for the bubbles that allows it to show the hair, which will change colour, while still looking like a full coat of shampoo on top.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

Check reddit OFTEN. The mods appreciate when you respond to their requests/suggestions in a timely manner. It helps them do their job and it helps you get your item in faster, it is a win-win scenario.

Find a style for yourself, or as a "mark" of your own. My first weapon was the infinium invader, a mace that matched the colours of the infinidome, the idea spawned 3 more (not quite done the collection yet) weapons to go with it.

I don't know about other creators, but at least for myself when it comes to publishing my creation on reddit, I don't do it unless I think it is 100% complete and the best I can do, or if I have no idea how to make it any better. This can happen after 10 minutes on a hat (mega mount meal) or 3 hours of reshaping/shading your first weapon (infinium invader).

Player creator RO_cata (IGN: ROcata) offered the top-rated [Melee] The Holy Axe. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

Not inspired - I was just told to make a weapon for the sky realm and when I started to make the new weapon it just popped into my head.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?i

There wasn't any challenge I just had fun making it.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

This one is a cliche but practice, practice, practice because practice makes perfect.

Player creator Karrut (IGN: Karrut) offered the top-rated [Sword] Crystallized Cloudblade. See the full post here.

What was your inspiration for this item?

My inspiration came from a few other material-themed weapons I've seen on the Trove Creations subreddit, one of which was a tentacle themed sword/staff (Can't remember which, I know it was accepted though). I decided to go ahead and create one based on another material in the game since I saw swords weren't being accepted unless Radiant, either radiant shards or crystallized clouds would be the way to go.

What was your biggest challenge in creating this item?i

My biggest challenge was probably taking the actual colours from the object, I tried numerous times in game to colour pick the scheme but the lighting in the areas I found were too off. Eventually I just decided to simply Google "Crystallized Cloud" and the first image that popped up was a Trovesaurus render. I just colour picked the RGB from that.

What words of inspiration do you have for other player creators out there?

Well I suppose my best advice would be to go for something you know people will understand, it's all well and good making a cool weapon based on [insert obscure pop culture reference here], but chances are not enough people will feel the same way about it as you do.

Community Contributions from "Welcoming Edition" - 4/28

17 new decorations, 46 new melee weapons, 23 new face styles, 20 hat styles, 28 staff styles, and 29 pistol styles for a total of 163 new player made creations.

See the official patch notes here.

Reader Survey - How helpful and clear are the creator guides on the Trove wiki?

Last week's poll surveyed readers on how many creations they have had accepted. Most of the people surveyed are still new to the item creation scene with either 0 creations accepted thus far (2 people) or 1-3 (5 people).

This week's poll asks you about the creator guides on the Trove wiki: "How helpful and clear are the creator guides on the Trove wiki?"

For the Poll, I'd like to add as a comment that for new creators, it is incredibly daunting to read those crazy chunks of information. They could do to update them a bit, just for brevity, as well as elaboration (or more accurately, to make the statements make more sense as a whole) on some other parts.

I'd say the dungeon if anything needs a rewrite... the bow could be a bit more specific when it talks about splitting the bow... the rest are fine really.

THATS MY HAIR!!!!1!!11!!1elventy!!1!
